What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: For a PG movie that's ostensibly meant to be a more kid-friendly sequel to its PG-13 predecessor, there is a surprising amount of raunchy content here, with sexual innuendos, disturbing imagery, and even a deleted sperm fertilization scene that's kept in non-Region 1 DVD copies.Unfortunately, he's a complete Jerkass who constantly torments his father, Tim, and makes life miserable for him throughout the whole movie for no real reason, other than just because, making him a borderline Villain Protagonist / Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist with no sympathetic qualities. Unintentionally Unsympathetic: The audience is clearly supposed to root for and sympathize with Alvey.Fans of the original Jim Carrey movie will be put off by the fact that he isn't in this movie, along with the cringe-worthy humor, people unfamiliar with the Mask franchise will be turned away by the unlikable characters and the mean-spirited nature of the film, and fans of the comics will be put off by the very family-friendly feel of the movie (ironically, younger audiences were put-off by the nightmarish visuals), along with everything that turned away fans of the first film, and newcomers to the franchise, as already mentioned previously. Uncertain Audience: It's pretty much safe to say that this movie just didn't appeal to.The fact that the camera is often zoomed in on it does not help. A standalone sequel, Son of the Mask, was released in 2005 to a critical. Tim Avery is also pretty unsettling when he's wearing the mask, with his fake-looking green face and obviously plastic hair.
